The book itself is great, but the kindle edition does not have a working table of contents, which makes this book very hard to use.
BIG THICK BOOK!!! Talk about information, I use this as more of a guide for ideas and commands than I do a read through. Has a decent set up to powershell at the beginning that explains some basics but then it jumps right into it.Perfect for someone who is dabbling into powershell and has some base knowledge but wants to learn way more.Only downside is it doesn't cover anything in PS4 or the upcoming PS5 since it was put together for PS3
A great Powershell Reference book - very organized and clearly explains the scripts provided. Wouldn't be my first choice in regards to a beginner book as it covers the basics very quickly, however, I feel this is a must own for Powershell users who intend to further their scripting skills.
This book is probably not for a programming novice, but it makes an excellent reference book that's full of examples.
Great book for intermediate level. Helped out well with some scripts I had to write. I will say that still I find myself going online to look at more examples of code, but still it provides a solid reference.
I got this book because I was interested in learning a new scripting language -- this book is great for that. It doesn't have any theory in it (as the name suggests -- cookbook), and just gives you small snippets of code for common tasks. I entered the 2012 scripting games earlier this year and this book (along with online resources) helped me do rather well in them. I find myself flipping through it randomly sometimes and finding interesting applications that I never would have considered. It's a great resource for new Powershell ideas. Highly recommended.
When I first started learning Windows PowerShell i bought the 1st edition of Lee's book and it really helped me getting started with PowerShell.Just like a real cookbook that contains recipes for food, Lee's book contains more than 430 recipes for PowerShell.If you want to cook togheter a new user in Active-Directory, check out recipe 26.7 or if you want to Import alot of users, turn to recipe 26.8. As a matter of fact,there are 24 different recipes available just for Active-Directory. If your interested in the Windows Registry, check out recipe 21.1 to 21.16,and if you want to learn the fundamentals of PowerShell you have an entire Chapter full with recipes that you can use.The 2nd edition adds Chapters and recipes around the new features PowerShell 2.0 such as: Remoting, Event Handling and much more.Each recipe includes a short description of a 'problem' followed by the PowerShell code that solves the problem.Lee has also included a 'Discussion' part in each recipe that provides an in-depth explanation of the recipe.I would recommend this book to complete beginners, IT-Pros, Developers. In fact, I would recommend this bookto anyone who uses Windows PowerShell. It's that good.Niklas Goude
