I ordered this cookbook because I have one from the 90's that has fallen apart. I have enjoyed many of the recipes in there for many years. I was pleasantly surprised to get a hand written note from the bookstore owner saying how much they love that cookbook, and it was their last one. Fast delivery, and it was in great shape :)

I had owned this book but went on a de-cluttering spree a few years ago and ended up selling this book. There are few regrets that I have in my life but letting go of this treasure is among the regret list because there were so many recipes that I had tried and loved but many others that I would have wanted to try. This is a hardbound collection of easy recipes using readily available ingredients. I'm hardly a gourmet cook but with this collection, you don't have to be. Now that it's in my collection again I will be hanging onto it. This is book two of two of the Land O Lakes books that I recently bought back. I have written the same review for the other book and will without question gave that a five star review as well.

My girlfriend and her mom & sisters have this edition which they call the Bible. Her dad was selling these door to door at the time and bought each of his girls a copy. I've had so many wonderful dishes over the years that I decided to see if I could find it. And what do ya know Amazon had it! Aren't they awesome? So excited about my find.

This is a very hard to find cookbook...as I don't think it's any longer in print. If you can find it, I recommend you buy it up b/c this is cookbook has the most incredible easy to follow country/comfort food recipes. It hold the entire range of cooking ideas such as: breakfast/starters/bread/soups/pasta/meats/desserts etc. I've tried most of the recipes and I don't have any negative reviews to make on it. I will say that the best format to buy this cookbook is in hardback copy. The ring binder option is a bit of a nightmare as the rings don't stay flush together...and over lap a bit causing the pages to rip and come away. But if you do buy this format option, be sure and buy ring reinforcements to protect the rings on the pages. Other than that, good luck finding it and enjoy!

I just received this from Amazon the other day.It is a plastic binder.This makes it very easy to removed the recipe that you want to make without having toTurn the book this way or that way to read the recipe and look at the picture.The other wonderful part of this cookbook is that the pictures help guide you.The recipes are only on one page and the picture on the other side.I had this delivered while at work.I had people clamoring at lunch to look through this cook book.One person said that it made him drool and another lady stating that she was buying thisCook book.Another wonderful part of this is that you can add recipes to this as it is a binder.This is worth the money I spent.I have looked for cook books that have pictures and this one is a great buy.

I have had this cookbook for a long, long time. My original book was so worn out I decided to replace it with a better copy. I have a handful of favorites that come from this book. As the years have progressed I have made a few of them more healthy but they are still a bunch of tried and true favorites.

I love this cookbook and have given them as gifts.

I bought this book several, I mean several years ago and it became my go to when I wanted to cook something fun and comforting. I loved the recipes as they are easy laid out, and not very complex. While the recipes are but your run of the mill American cooking they are different enough they do not come off typical or boring. Lost the book in a move and alas found it in Amazon. I can not wait for it to arrive.

About the Author

Karol Jackowski's life as a nun began in 1964, when she joined the Sisters of the Holy Cross in South Bend, Indiana. She graduated from Saint Mary's College in South Bend in 1969 with a BA in sociology and then from the University of Notre Dame in 1974 with an MA in theology. Karol spent half of her life as a nun at Saint Mary's College, first as a student and then as an administrator in various capacities. In 1990, she moved to New York City to finish her PhD at New York University. During this time, she was also the chief operating officer of an East Village novelty store called Alphabets. In 1995, Karol left the Sisters of the Holy Cross and became part of the Sisters for Christian Community, an independent, self-governing sisterhood. She is the author of numerous books and an acclaimed artist, whose work is in private collections and displayed in the Veselka restaurant in New York's East Village.

This is such a terrific book, and I hope Tuttle publishes another, more advanced one to make this a series. The stories are excellent, and each one builds off of vocabulary learned in previous stories. This allows for familiarity through repetition with it feeling rote and mindless. The font is clean and although it is a bit small for older eyes, the bright white pages and crisp, clean text provide enough contrast that the characters are easy to read. The comprehension questions start off mostly in English (and are easy), and become progressively more difficult as the lessons progress. Lessons 3 through 28 offer the question in both English and Hangul, and from lesson 29 on they are written only in Hangul. Pre-reading questions and Writing activities are included in most lessons. That said, if you are not using this book in tandem with a language tutor, you'll need to use this as a supplement to other resources, as there are a couple of things missing.First, careful students will notice similar phrases repeated at the end of most sentences (such as 입니다). There is nothing in the book that discusses what they are or what the translation is; it is left up to the student to research them on their own. I find it strange that there is an included glossary of common phrases (and even Hangul pronunciation) but not a list of formal style verb forms (one of which is the aforementioned 입니다). Second (and also relevant to 입니다) is that the pronunciation on the included CD sounds like the speaker is using the more casual form (for example, 니다) in places, regardless of the polite form written in the lesson. Overall, these phrases are used all the time in Korean, so the omission of such a list is glaring. Puzzling these out on your own, however, will likely sear them into your brain for good.And speaking of the CD, be aware that while the lessons have been recorded by a native speaker, she is speaking as if to students and not to other Korean speakers. That means that vowel sounds are far more drawn out than they would otherwise be, so you will need to learn how to quicken your syllables when speaking or you will sound like a child. :) It would have been nice if they could have also recorded the stories at a normal conversational pace, but it's not going to hurt your skills any to not have this available.Other than those relatively minor issues, this is a fantastic book that will take you far, as long as you are willing to put in the required effort. Do not rush the lessons; make sure you are comfortable with the important vocabulary before moving on and you will do well. 화이팅!

A good, progressive collection of Korean stories with English translation and vocabulary. Builds from the very simple to the more complex, and the "training wheels" make it pretty straightforward to move through the tales effectively. I find it useful to be able to see the language used in integrated, story format, in contrast with some text materials (also good, I'll grant) that give you smaller pieces to work with . The stories can also be amusing, and the book incorporates cultural notes that help put things in context.

I love this book a lot! It's set up really well. There is Korean and English to each story. Each story has pre-reading questions, vocabulary, post-reading questions, and a writing prompt. Some stories included relevant cultural information which I found helpful. As a polygot, I think this book is great. The stories get more difficult, but you'll see reoccurring themes and vocabulary. At a certain point the questions don't have English translations so you have to try to figure out what's being asked (there's always a translation for the story). Overall, I really think this is a great book for self-study. Keep in mind that I am a beginner Korean learner, so I can't vouch for the quality of Korean in the book but I love the set up of this book a lot.

..as far as I can tell, being late beginner/ early intermediate. Have found an error, actually, although one that makes sense if you're typing fast: basically, in the vocab list for the story of the girl and boy that became the sun and moon, (and i apologize as I have no Korean keyboard right now) the word "mun" in korean is said to mean "moon" in english when it actually means "door". Again, it makes sense as a mistake if you're typing fast, since they sound alike.Aside from that, I really enjoy the book. I got the kindle edition, so as I read a new story, I highlight the words I don't know (or the ones that are hard for me to pronounce) and I look them up in a dictionary later (for the ones that aren't initially in the vocab list). Then, I write the meaning in the notes of each highlight, and try to read again without checking the note.

I really like this book, it starts with stories that are edited for beginners to understand and gets progressively more complex as the book goes along. I really appreciate that the authors made the book in response to their beginner Korean students' request for approachable reading material.

It’s a very nice book with both Korean and English version for each story. There are also a lot of interesting cultural notes and there is a small vocabulary at the end!

Even though I've had this book for about 5 minutes, I'm extremely happy with the purchase. I've been looking for a Korean/English book with some short stories so I can practice reading faster as I practice Korean daily. I would recommend this for someone who understands the basics of Korean language, survival vocabulary, and can comfortably read korean words.

Great book for ppl taking a formal korean class but not so much for anyone learning on their own. It has a vocab list for certain words in each story but you have to know basic korean to understand the rest.

The author provides clarity, details and depth on her endeavors throughout the United States and beyond in engaging communities, building partnerships and expanding audiences for arts organizations. Reading Donna Walker -Kuhne's experiences in audience development elicits so much excitement as it makes the case that the greatest limitations are the ones in our mind, even in the bleakest circumstances. Donna Walker-Kuhne is honest on the demands of an effective audience development program as it takes time to manifest into tangible results. I was particularly moved of how Donna's iinitiatives prompted community key players to work together whom continued to support each other long after their participation in audience development. I can not resist retelling the stories Donna shared in this book, yes, it's that compelling. If you are interested in concrete strategies or inspiration to expand your imagination in audience development, this book is the best investment of your time and energy.

This book should be part of the foundation of arts organizations all over the world. If you're interested in learning more about engaging audience or even how the Arts is marketed towards the larger community as a whole - this is the book for you. I assign "Invitation..." to my M.P.A. students at the end of our Communication course. After slogging through 700+pages of theory, my students view Walker-Kuhne's book as a treat. Though she is well-versed in marketing theory, she devotes most of the book to the "how-to" aspects of social marketing. Set in dramatic locations and involving historic campaigns and events, her case studies are compelling and rich. She tackles important debates (e.g., is there such a thing as an "underserved" population?) and wrestles with perennial issues (e.g., how to get consumers to see theater/arts experiences as self-investments). Hundreds of Baruch College master's degree students have loved this book! It would work well in undergraduate classrooms or in public sector professional development. If you are an educator outside of New York, your students will relish the opportunity to visit our city's artistic community through Walker-Kuhne's vivid narratives!As a bonus: The author is extremely accessible (though busy because of it) and engaging. I loved her book and contacted her - she visited our campus several times to talk to students!

An excellent starting point for theatre artists interested in developing a more diverse audience for their productions. Walker-Kuhne, who was head of audience development for the Public Theatre and the Dance Theatre of Harlem, clearly outlines a general approach to diversifying your audience that is based on an ongoing relationship based on trust and dialogue. She outlines "ten tools for building audiences" and provides several chapters that are case studies of audience development campaigns that she personally was involved in: the Public Theatre in general (especially George C. Wolfe's commitment to make the Public audience "look like a subway stop in New York City"), and s[ecifically Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk; Harlem Song, the Dance Theatre of Harlem. These case studies describe specific programs, but to my mind what this book more importantly does is describe clearly and passionately the importance and value of the goal and the level of commitment necessary to achieve it.I recommend this book as a starting place for anyone wanting to expand their audiences. While the advice is specifically about diversifying your audience, in many respects the advice is applicable to audience development in general.

Both clear and insightful, Walker-Kuhne details her successes in audience development and frames them in such a way that is inspiring and achievable to arts administrators of any caliber.
