Not a bad story line, but I have two criticisms. First, the gunplay was not very believable. In I think in every instance where the good guys fought the bad guys, every one of the bad guys were killed; many with only one shot. I haven't been in many (read "any") gunfights, but I suspect some of the bad boys would suffer non-fatal injuries. Secondly, the script could have used more proof-rerading. I found more than the usual number of misspelled words and errors in grammar. That takes away from my enjoyment of a book.I sort of feel this is a writer of limited experience and I am sure he will improve with time. I have already read three of his books and will probably read at least two more, since I have already purchased them.
Boehm has given Western reader's a new, well drawn hero to join the likes of Chick Bowdrie and Frank Morgan. The characters are well developed and for the most part complex. Best of all Duane Boehm makes the reader care about the protagonist and dread the bad guys. Gideon Johann is no one dimensional super hero who never misses, rather he is believable and falible. "Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear...." Sit back and turn those pages and lose yourself in a well written story.
An excellent follow up to the book "Last Stand". The characters continued to grow without conflict and the action in the story continued as well. The bad guys were bad and the good guys true and the women were fine even the whores. Left a little opening for a future book by not explaining the man from Gideon's past that wanted to hurt him. I'll look forward to reading it.
I read the entire Gideon Johann Western series. I enjoyed each book. The author gives the characters life. He develops the stories to keep the reader interested. It was hard to put them down. I recommend reading them in order 1 through 7. They are continuing stories of the life of several people in the small town in Colorado.
Good and entertaining from page 1 to the end. Key characters are challenged, as are most people, but strong and principled so the reader wants to cheer for their success, which comes with difficulty. Like most good westerns, there is love of the outdoors, good guys and very bad guys, and action. Immediately went to read the third book and now on fourth in the series.
Last Chance continues the story of Gideon and Abby's life .I fell in love with this town and everyone in it .I could hardly wait for book two and hope there will be a book three to follow Zack and Joann love .For readers that haven't found Duane Boehm books yet check them out you want be disappointed .i will be waiting for more since he has become one of my favorite authors.
This book is a story that will keep you reading it when you need to put it down, and do some other things . It is filled with twists and turns that you never expect. I will be looking for a book 3 .Boehm is an extremely GOOD Western Author . I recommend this and other of his books highly.
This is a wonderful author who keep you intrigued with every page turned. You never know what might happen. I continue to enjoy the characters in the book and the adventures that they end up having.
