I read a LOT of erotic romance, including BDSM themes, so I am no prude. Maybe this book had some kind of appeal in the immediate post-50 Shades world, but in the post-Harvey Weinstein world it is seriously awful. The only difference between the hero in this book and any creepy sexual predator or abusive male is his good looks. Even Harvey Weinstein is said to have had some charm — this guy does not.Spoilers ahead! The hero is the heroine’s business client, but he lures her into a sexual set-up, coming out of a hotel bathroom half-naked, expecting her to succumb to his sex appeal immediately. She does. Then, in their very first sexual encounter, he “forgets” a condom and ejaculates inside her, then follows that with virtually forcing her into anal sex — without condom or lube — then immediately returns to vaginal intercourse without giving either of them an opportunity to clean up or use a condom, which he apparently thinks is unnecessary. Not only is this recklessly unsafe sex, it’s really just gross and not at all erotic.Thereafter, he harasses her with phone calls and texts, follows her, shows up at her workplace where he physically throws her over his shoulder and drags her out to the street. He later shows up uninvited to her home pounding on the door demanding another chance to “remind her” how great the sex is by forcefully seducing her. The heroine, instead of being terrified and getting a restraining order, is worried that she will fall for this creep and be emotionally lost when he inevitably dumps her because he is too rich and handsome for her. This pretty much sums up how abusive relationships begin.I love a dominant alpha male hero, but This Man is a controlling, violent stalker and a total jerk. The heroine not only takes his verbal and physical harassment and abuse, she also works for a boss who calls her “flower” and expects her to accept sexual harassment from other male clients. We deserve better. Even in a fictional world.

First let me say that I did read most of the negative reviews of this book first. I was a little hesitant to read it when I heard about some of the questionable sex and the way Jesse's behavior is over the top; but I was intrigued. I honestly liked this book and will read the others. I think maybe some reviewers took a little of Jesse's behavior too seriously; after all it is a book. I don't think it was Ms. Malpas' intention to condone any type of abusive behavior, although Jesse cutting off a $500 dress did leave me a little chilled. This is what stories about some alpha males are about. I don't like typical stories. Jesse is a bad boy alright, but he is a wounded bad boy and I know eventually I will find out why. We all know in real life terms most of us would not put up with this type of a behavior, but as I said, it is a story and a good one at that. I have read many novels about complicated men and this one did it for me (with the exception of Zeke Monroe, the Cheyenne Indian from The Savage Destiny Series by Rosanne Bittner). I think I'm going to kick back and enjoy the rest of the three books.

An intense love story with twists, turns, frustrations and secrets. I love this story (series) and all the characters. Jesse and Ava, two main characters, I just love but the other characters are adorable as well.Jesse Ward is a self assured man, perhaps you would call him arrogant and privileged with looks that kill. The Lord of 'The Manor' who can have anything or anyone he wants except Ava. A woman who has just gotten out of a bad 4 year relationship and living with her bestie Kate. Ava just wants to get her life back on track, get her own place, focusing on her career that she loves and is amazing at as a designer and stay man free. Simple enough, you would think. Ave has just finished an incredible luxury apartment building (Lusso) over looking London and the greatest achievement in her short career. Just off the Lusso job, Ava has another job that is awaiting for her attention, 'The Manor'. A job that she has been personally requested for. When she arrives at the 'The Manor' she is questioning the reasoning for her assistant at this magnificent place. Then she meets the Lord of The Manor, Jesse Ward...the perfect man. Very tall, board chest, squared jaw, dirty-blond hair, eyes are sludgy green, but bright and way too intense, lightly tanned and just...OH God, he's devastating. Ava's senses are loss and she knows just then she's in trouble if she is to work for 'This Man'.By the second meeting of Jesse and Ava, you will be enjoying intense sex scenes and frustrations that makes you continue to read to the end of the book and want more...a lot more. When I got to the end of this book I couldn't wait to get the next book started. I do recommend this book and this series.Jodi Ellen Malpas has fast become one of my FAVORITE authors with her incredible writing and brilliant imagination. Jodi's ability to pull you into the story with her words and creativity to explore the physical attraction with an impact, your heart will ache for more. If you don't like reading a lot of sex scenes then this isn't the series for you. At times during reading the 2nd book I really wanted more content to the story versus sex. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good sex scene but it got a little much at times. This is the ONLY thing I can say that is negative about this story (series) but you can easily get pass it and continue to FALL IN LOVE with this story and THIS MAN!!
