About the Author
Billy Showell graduated from St Martins School of Art with a B.A. in fashion design, but was irresistably drawn to painting and illustration. In 1993 she set course for a career as an artist and now paints, illustrates and teaches botanical painting at her studio and art clubs in the UK, USA and Australia. She lives in Tunbridge Wells, UK with her husband and two sons. Billy has been awarded five Certificates of Botanical Merit from the Society of Botanical Artists and her first book on watercolour flower portraits has been hugely successful in the UK and abroad. Billy's paintings are collected by her followers the world over and many are available as limited edition prints.

One of the 4 watercolor books produced by Billy Showell. I am currently enrolled in her on-line watercolor class. She is an excellent instructor in both her books and class. The other books that she has written are: Watercolour Flower Portraits, A-Z of Flower Portraits and Botanical Painting in Watercolour.
Great book. Have had this book for awhile can't beleive never posted. It is packed with info and very colorful. Makes me happy just looking at it.Not for the beginning watercolorist. This is not a how to step by step book.
This book is a treasure as are the others by Billy Showell. I found it well written, full of information that improved my painting and was so inspired by what I read and gleaned from her wonderful illustrations that I enrolled in her classes via the internet. I recommend this book and enrolling in her distance learning classes.
Book is full of colourful pictures and great walkthrough of how to achieve the same results. I honestly use it more as a "coffee table" book, but look forward to actually progressing through the book while painting soon.
I'm learning botanical illustration and have quite a few books that teach you step by step. Most of them show too few steps for a beginner, but Billy Showell includes far more pictures of the steps than any other book I have seen. She goes through the basic techniques (drawing, color, composition, light and shade, etc.) with 3 or more illustrations each, then the "projects" section shows 19 to 52 steps per painting, plus one or two images of the final painting.Even if you mainly want to paint flowers, you can learn a lot from this book. It is so complete and detailed, that I just ordered one of her flower books. I'm impressed with her understanding of what a student needs.
Great way to learn to mix watercolors. Very instructional on botanicial painting.
