If you could only buy one book on magic, this is the one. The price is a bargain for the information being provided. One of the many great features is a DVD which covers (i.e., presents & demonstrates) about a third of the effects addressed in the book. The quality of the book's language and photos is likewise outstanding. Joshua Jay can be proud of himself and his really wonderful book which is sure to become a classic in magic literature. He hits the nail on the head when he points out that people don't simply want to learn the secrets...but to learn how to perform the magic itself. I am trying to adopt many of the effects myself so I can share them with family and friends. The wonder of magic for me and many others is to allow ourselves to be children again...and Joshua Jay is helping many amateurs such as myself to share that joyful experience with others. Well done, young Mr. Jay!

This book is so much fun and my nephew loves it! He's learning new tricks all the time and amazing me as to how they're done. You really don't expect amazing tricks from lil kids, but with the help of this book, he's pulling off some pretty great stuff. We are all glad he got us to order this book for him now. It's a wonderful hobby and it has helped him develop his self-esteem and social skills, which were fine to begin with, only now he's reached new levels. Parents, buy this and other magic trick books for your kids if they want them, you won't be sorry.

This is a good ebook and is easy to read with easy directions, quite lengrthy and most of the tricks are ones I had not seen before, the writer has a very laid back style.

This book is great. It was really interesting. I learned a lot of magic. It is a really special book because it gives detailed explanation about the performance, which is not something every book has. This book really inspired me to perform magic. It's amazing what can be done with a deck of cards, or pretty much anything else. Really creative ideas for beginner magicians, with tricks that can be performed at any time mostly without preparation. Waiting for another one to come out!

I gave this to my brother in law for Christmas. Once he opened it he was "gone". He sat there trying to pay attention to everything going on around him, but kept going back to his Magic book. He had heard of the person who wrote the book and was very excited to get home and play the DVD which came with it. He made my husband promise he hadn't already read the book because he wants to show us the tricks he is about to learn.

The book is very good, but the DVD is what makes this item something any magician at any level of expertise should consider. Mr. Jay is clearly a talented performer, but also a careful and competent teacher. I have had the Invisible Deck and a certain trick coin sitting around unused for years. After viewing Jay's handling of each effect, I plan to make them part of my "set list." The author correctly views a magic trick as a device through which one can convey their personality to others. Therein lies real entertainment.

I bought the book for my nephew who is interested in magic. He was excited about the book, especially the CD that came with it.

Bought this for my young son, hoping he'd share my fondness for close-up illusions. (He doesn't, as it turns out, but that's okay.)I went ahead and tried a few of the effects on my wife and son. Some impressed them, some didn't, but that's as much my performance as it is Jay's instructions. But, I think it's worth noting that a large part of Jay's text (and this is a nicely balanced mix of words and pictures) is devoted to telling you how utterly stunned your audiences will be for a lot of the effects included.Well...I was naturally attracted to the card effect he states is the acclaimed choice by the entire profession as the greatest card trick of all time. It's fairly easy to perform, so I tried it on my wife and son (you need two participants to really do it).At the moment where you reveal the effect, my wife (who knows a bit about magic, as she acts as my assistant some times), grinned and said, "But... that can't be!" About three seconds later, her grin shifted to a sly smile, and she said, "You [complete explanation of how the illusion was done]."Maybe I mucked it up in performance, but I really don't think even I am so bad at card effects that "the greatest card trick of all time" would be transparent to my wife, notwithstanding that she knows a little bit about how some illusions are performed.So, go ahead and buy the book, but make your own choices about which effects are good for you to try on others, and which are easy to figure out. (For what it's worth, I actually expected the "greatest" trick to be easily figured out, but I have been doing close-up for almost fifty years, so I am a bad judge as to what will fool the participants and what will not. Except, apparently, this time.)

Great book! My 19 year old sister passed unexpected 7 months ago. This book has definitely helped my grieving process. I recommended it.

A good companion book to Healing a Parents's Grieving Heart.. Sensitive helpful ways to heal.

I was so grateful there was a book out there to help me in my grief when my brother died unexpectedly. The book let me know that it was OK to be sad, cry, and most of all be easy on myself. We shared so much: my big brother, my go to guy. Part of me is gone and will never be back in this life,however, I was so blessed to have my brother for the time I did. I must think on that!

I recently lost my brother, my only sibling. This was the first book I had seen on grieving the loss of a sibling. I was very encouraged by the suggestions and insights offered in Dr. Wolfelt's book. I also purchased Wolfelt's books on grieving the loss of a spouse for my sister-in-law and his book on teenage grieving for my late brother's teenage grandson. Both have derived hope and help from the books. I am a hospice volunteer and have read many books/pamphlets on grieving written by others. Dr. Wolfelt is at the top of my list of authors addressing such a sensitive matter.

Purchased for my oldest daughter after losing her sister to suicide.

This book is a must read for those that suffer from depression and those that love someone with depression. I have been married for over 30 years to the most amazing and beautiful person I know. She struggles with depression. We have both read several books over the years on the topic, but this one is the best by far. Park tells it like it is. He speaks the truth with a genuine concern for others. The words of this book resonated with my wife and enlightened me very much. Thank you, J. S. Park for bringing some much needed light and focus on the subject of depression.

Absolutely Amazing. I have read several of his books and I would say that this is his best.I have a B.A in Psych with an emphasis on mental illness. I have read a ton of books on depression, this is by FAR the best one. He truly does explain how hard it really is. He also takes into consideration what depression is like for the people that have to support their loved ones through the journey. It is clear, and his loving heart is evident in every page. If you want to understand depression, look no further. Buy this book!

I read this little book in one day. Mr Park has a pastors heart. I see so much caring in these words, but also I see evidence of research. This isn't just fluffy imagery and opinions. This book lays out some real problems that keep people from understanding depression, and deals with those problems step by step, looking at the same thing from various angles until it is fully addressed before he moves on. This is not a memoir or a story of his depression -- he seeks to include everyone and I believe he does well in that endeavor.

I highly recommend this book to those who have been through, are in, or want to understand depression and mental illness. J S Park gave a great balance of personal experience, spirituality, and science as he braided this book together. There's chapters that will encourage you, challenge you, and some that will make you sit back and have to process the questions you may have pressed to the back of your mind.An "easy" read for a heavy topic!

I highlighted in this book more than any other. Lots of strong points I related to. Even the points I didn't directly related to, I could understand where he was coming from. Would give a 4.5 if I could but it lost a star because of having a strong religious base. Like I said, I can understand why others may relate to those parts but they just weren't for me.

It's a really great book. It helps to realize we are not alone. He doesn't give any quick fixes or tell you to pray more or do this and it'll go away. He's honest, both objective and subjective (if that's even possible), and also very thorough in his research. It's more than obvious he suffers, and he does give possibilities of what works for some. I'm also recommending this book to my wife to better help her understand why I get the way I get. Definitely recommend.

It's a good book with lots of pictures but very few words. I feel like a lot of explaining was left out.. for example how long things need to be, how to braid or make the coils. These things are very important but he does state at the end that he purposely left those things out relying on the reader to already have knowledge of these things. I disagree because if I already had knowledge I would not have bought the book. I'm still giving four stars because I really like his work and have always followed him on YouTube. Possibly if another book is wrote in the future maybe add some more detail or specify that this is primarily a picture book.

This tutorial requires previous wire weaving and coiling experience. Although the text has some quirky translations, the excellent photos help make it understandable. I was able to follow the directions easily.

This is a really good book for a crafter with some wire experience. The instructions are great and very clear. Love the detailed pictures!!
